A week ago, Alex and Shelby braved a windy day to say "I Do" under a beautiful cross decorated with florals that Shelby put together herself at Union 12 in Fort Wayne, IN.
The Lich's love story started as camp counselors at summer camp. Their closest friends and family all saw the start of the couple's story through a photo of the two taken at camp. Shelby was leaning forward, reaching for a fishing line, while Alex held her shirt to make sure she did not fall in. "Who's the girl?" "Who's the guy?" their friends and family asked when the photo got uploaded to Facebook. Four years of dating came and gone until the two came together in front of their loved ones and officially became one.
On the morning of the Lich wedding, the bridesmaids buzzed around the reception hall in their matching bridal party rompers as they filled the reception hall with gorgeous mint green decor and lush florals. Shelby hid away in her bridal suite, getting makeup and hair done. Her wedding dress hung up on a custom hanger displaying her name with her veil, which had pieces from her mother and grandmother's veil, laying out. Alex gathered upstairs with his groomsmen to hang out and wait until the ceremony time. The two wrote sweet notes to read before the ceremony. Alex's gift to Shelby brought tears to her eyes and included a photo book of the two.
Union 12 was the perfect venue for the couple. The two decided to forgo a first look, but Shelby still wanted to do one with her dad. The windows upstairs where Alex hid only looked out into a far corner of the venue, ensuring that no matter where Shelby went, there would be no accidental peaks before their first look down the aisle. Shelby's dad stood outside the reception hall, facing away from the bridal suite as Shelby walked out towards him. She tapped his shoulder for the reveal and had the sweetest reaction from her dad when he saw her dressed in her wedding gown for the first time.
The ceremony beautifully captured Alex and Shelby's love for Christ. There were moments within the ceremony for prayers over the couple. And before the sweet first kiss moment, the couple chose to do a feet-washing ceremony, a tradition representative of Jesus washing the feet of his disciples in John 13:1-17, as a symbol of love and humility. The two wrote their vows to each other, making promises for their future.
The Lich celebration ended with a huge party in the reception hall. The large wall of windows behind the wedding party table lit up the room with warm, golden sunset light. And as the sunlight dimmed, the twinkle of lights surrounded the venue flickered on. The DJ played the perfect songs to get the crowd on their feet and dance the night away.
I had the greatest honor capturing the Lich's wedding day and cannot wait to share these sneak peeks with you. The two were so down to do whatever we needed for the best photo op. They trusted me enough to get into a canoe that started filling with water! I have so much love for them and cannot wait to follow their journey as husband and wife.
